  • Where and when do you think this story is set? Back in the day

  • What do the images tell you about the characters? They are grandfather and grandson

  • What do you think grandfather meant by saying: ‘time to leave childish ways behind?’ Hew needed to grow up.

  • Why did you think the bird was ‘wary’ of Hew? Because he has never met him before.

  • How did the bird show them where to go?

  • What happened to Hew when he tried to catch some fish? He fell in the slime water.

  • What does Hew mean by the words ‘I promise’? He promised to leave his childish ways

  • How does the story make you feel? Make me want to fish
