Writing task

 ~ Moana ~

Moana is a story that takes place around the beautiful Pacific, centered around a young princess, Moana, and the mischievous demigod Maui.

Your task today is to use METAPHORICAL language to describe the people, and places from the movie. Metaphorical language means that we have made a comparison between the thing we are describing,

 and something we all recognise.

Let’s look at 3  different types of metaphorical language…

Type of Metaphorical Language

How we use it

Example

What I really mean.

METAPHOR

A metaphor is when you say something IS something else.

“Mr Hughes is a teddy bear”

This means Mr Hughes is friendly, and cuddly.

SIMILE

A simile is when you say something is LIKE or AS something else.

“Mr Hughes is as ugly as a crushed pineapple”

Mr Hughes looks like a crushed pineapple

PERSONIFICATION

A personification gives human qualities to something non-human.

“The wind whistled through the trees”

The noise of the wind sounded like somebody whistling.

Your job is to use METAPHORS, SIMILES, AND PERSONIFICATION to describe these things from the movie Moana.

Check the next page for the table you will be using.

Use 3 examples of Metaphorical Language to describe…

What do they look like?

How do they act/behave?

Moana

Moana has the look of a Polynesian also has a spike of destiny and inspiration for long stories and much more tales.

Likes to sing. Behaves sometimes well towards her parents. Does not want to take on the role of chief but wants to explore the Moana (Ocean).

Maui

A demigod who has a little friend on his body who has a tattoo yet he moves. Maui is a walking tattoo  with long hair and teeth for a necklace.

Ignorant but friendly. Likes to sing like Moana and talk to himself. Weird but what I mean is tattoo him.

HeiHei

HeiHei looks like a very skinny rooster. He has the name of “Village Idiot”. Even though he is a rooster.

All i can say is he acts dumb. He likes to eat rocks. He also resembles a chicken always clucking around.

Te Fiti

Te Fiti looks like Moana but has a lot of grass. Also she looks like a Polynesian version of the Maori Goddess of land Papatuanuku.

Te Fiti does show her thanks besides to Maui but she still gives him his Hook. She cannot speak but is always smiling  except in front of Maui once again.
